In my book, How to Become an Educated Consumer of Website Design and Development Services, I promote the time-honored tradition of preparing a request for proposals (RFP) as part of the process of hiring a web professional to build your website. The video below has given me reason to pause and perhaps change my thinking on that subject. In this TED talk from Canda, local consultant Cal Harrison makes a compelling argument to dump the compeitive bidding process in favor of direct negotiations with the most qualified provider of services for the task at hand.
